Client Onboarding

Keep proposed work flexible. Make accepted work accountable. A governed entry point into STAR.

Unfinished glass chambers cross a bronze threshold into a sage-glass pavilion, with a small preserved model of the approved structure.

01 / The context

The problem behind the project.

Accepting a client or a new engagement is a business decision, not simply a database insert. Client Onboarding gives firms a working space for incomplete intake, risk questions, origination, and approvals before proposed work becomes official practice-management data. It supports new prospects and additional work for existing STAR clients.

02 / The contribution

How I approached it.

  1. Separated proposed accounts and Job Opportunities from accepted STAR clients and jobs, with validation and routing shaped to the firm's approval rules.
  2. Made downstream creation transactional and dependency-aware: a new parent is created before its child, and an existing client is reused when another opportunity is approved.
  3. Preserved the approved opportunity as a frozen snapshot while showing the current, synchronized STAR client and job alongside it.
  4. Built the product around metadata-derived queries and generated contracts, allowing the operating model to survive changes in interface technology. Customer-specific add-ons remain distinct from the core product.

03 / The result

What the work made possible.

An original licensed product whose lineage carried a national practice's full acceptance process. Its essential distinction is durable: what was approved stays preserved, while the resulting client and job continue their operational lives. The historical production implementation is documented separately in the portfolio.
